The World Cyber Games committee has announced a prize cut for the Counter-Strike competition in the region of $35,000.
The prize purse for the Counter-Strike tournament has been reduced from $75,500 to just $40,000 (approximately €30,000), with the winner now receiving $25,000, which is $10,000 less than what last year's champion returned home with.
In 2009, all teams who finished from first to eighth returned from China with a cheque in their hands, but this year only the top three placed sides will get something for their efforts.
This is the second year in a row in which tournament winnings have been shrivelled, with the 2008 event boasting $102,500 for the Counter-Strike tournament alone.
