Verdansk is set to return in Warzone Season 3 to become the main big map once again, but players want this Resurgence map to be left behind once the update goes live.

Maps can make or break any battle royale game and Warzone is no exception. Over the years, we’ve seen some truly iconic battlegrounds that players still talk about today, from Verdansk to the original Rebirth Island.

However, there have also been others that the community has turned on, which were later removed and never returned. With the Season 3 update around the corner, fans have picked out the current map that they deem a “massive failure” — Area 99.

Warzone players are sick of Area 99

This small Resurgence map was released in Season 1 when Warzone integrated with Black Ops 6, and is inspired by the legendary map Nuketown. But while the look and theme was intriguing, the response quickly soured after launch.

Now, players have all but given up on the map and hope it’s removed in a future update, as Reddit user ‘F1R3Starter83’ explained.

“When it launched I can’t remember people being particularly excited about it. I personally felt it had some good features, but it also felt too cramped for Resurgence. Seeing how it fairly quickly got taken out of regular rotation without people voicing their disappointment about this, is it time to officially call this map the biggest failure in Warzone history?”

Plenty of other players agreed in the comments, with many calling out the small layout and overly frantic gunfights that give you little room to breathe.

“I’d argue the worst map they’ve ever made,” said one player, before another added: “The map design is the worst in cod history.”

Only Rebirth Island and Area 99 are in the rotation in Season 2. But with Season 3 and the return of Verdanks around the corner, many are hoping that the map will removed and replaced by one of the other Reurgence maps that are currently missing, particularly Vondel.

“Ashika, Vondel & Fortune’s Keep… 3 great maps with some diversity only to get this piece of trash of map,” said one angry fan, while another agreed: “BRING BACK VONDEL FOR THE LOVE OF COD.”

Given that Area 99 was designed specially with Black Ops 6 in mind, it’s highly unlike that it will be removed any time soon. In fact, it will most likely stick around until at least the launch of Call of Duty 2025, at which point we could see a totally new selection of maps.
